IN HEALTH: Deepak Chopra, Wellness Guru

Dr. Deepak Chopra is recognized in the world as one of the greatest leaders in the field of alternative medicine through his healing technique blending the best of westernmedicine with natural healing traditions of the east.

Dr. Chopra was chief of staff at Boston Regional Medical Center, where he built a successful endocrinology practice in the 1980s. In this practice,

he realized that there was potential in western medicine for the establishment of a new life-giving program which encompassed the principle thatperfect health is more than just the absence of disease. He began to envision a medical system based on the premise that health is a state of balance and integration of body, mind and spirit.

He established The Chopra Center for Well Being in La Jolla, California in 1995. Through partnership with numerous health care professionals in both conventional and complementary healing arts, his work has changed the way the world views physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellness.

Dr. Chopra’s mission of well-being could be gleaned from his many published works including 25 books and over 100 audio, video and CD-ROM tapes, seminars, and world-wide speeches on wellness.

World leaders have recognized Dr. Chopra’s outstanding work. Former President Clinton, when he visited India last year stated that United States has been enriched by the contributions of more than a million Indian Americans which includes Dr. Deepak Chopra, the pioneer of alternative medicine.”

Dr. Chopra was also the recipient of the “Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic” awarded by the Pio Manzu International Scientific Committee. During the presentation of the medal, Mikhail Gorbachev called Dr. Chopra as one of the most lucid and inspired philosophers of our time.

Through his Chopra Center, Dr. Chopra is revolutionizing common wisdom about the crucial connection between body, mind, spirit and healing.
